TREE provides elementary schoolchildren with world class learning opportunities through more effective uses of technology. There are two main programs: KIDsCAN, a recycling project by which 132 K-12 schools in 6 Southern California, generates technology funds by collecting bottles and cans, and The Council for 21st Century Schools, an association of principals L.A. County's 50 most technologically advanced elementary schools. The Council has published a guide to professional development opportunities in multimedia and Internet technology available to LA County educators and sponsors the TREE/AT&T LEARNING NETWORK PRINCIPALS INSTITUTE FOR TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP, a training program for elementary and middle school principals and others experienced in implementing technology in the classroom. The Institute is funded by the AT&T Foundation and meets about two days per month.
