School Based Coaching Services

The School Based Coaching Services program is improving student learning and achievement by promoting literacy in English Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. Initiative coaches promote standards based instruction, provide teachers with intensive professional development, and connect teachers with supportive collegial networks that share ideas and expertise.

Working with more than 300 teachers in eight middle schools serving 12,000 Los Angeles students, the Initiative helps teachers learn to use a rigorous standards-based curriculum with a focus on improving student literacy skills. Coaches offer consulting to address specific needs, and facilitate collaborative teacher efforts to address instructional challenges.

Services provided range from one-on one coaching, to demonstration lessons for groups of teachers. Coaching supports school district instructional goals and strategies.
