Rubric: Science Portfolio Upper Half __________________________________________ 4: This portfolio is excellent in every way. It contains a complete record of the studentÕs involvement in all the courseÕs activities. It includes all the components which are essential to document progress in our class (Science Lab Notebook, Daily Journal of Important Ideas, Notes from class, Home Assignments, etc.), and may well include evidence of progress not related to activities in the class but to what the student did independently to learn more about the subject. It is well organized, is obviously in the studentÕs own words, and clearly documents that the student has made excellent progress in mastery of concepts and skills related to our courseÕs units of study. __________________________________________ 3: This portfolio is good, but not excellent. It may contain excellent documentation of the studentÕs work in some of our class activities, but is missing documentation in other important areas. It may contain documentation in all areas of our classÕs activities but lack the quality and clarity of description which is seen in a 4 (see above). It may contain lots of evidence of a studentÕs progress in class, but is difficult to read through because of poor organization. ItÕs entries will be obviously written in the studentÕs own words, and documents good progress in learning about important concepts and skills being developed in our course. Lower Half __________________________________________ 2: This portfolio is lacking some important evidence which would be expected to be located in the portfolio. It may contain lots of evidence of what went on in class, but in other peopleÕs words (photocopy materials from other students, phrases directly copied from published materials or from the chalkboard, etc.). It is probably missing evidence in some important areas of the classÕs work on the subject. It documents only some progress by the student in mastery of the important concepts and skills being addressed in class. __________________________________________ 1: This is a poor portfolio. It contains little evidence of progress made in class in the students own words. It is probably poorly organized, and difficult to read. It contains only the most essential details of the work the student did in the various aspects of class. It documents that the student has made little progress in class. __________________________________________ 0: The student does not turn in a portfolio.
