Putting it All Together

Doug Ryden 99th St. School

  • Carefully put the bottom ends of vertical supports into cups and fill with sand or dirt. This will help hold them up while putting the bridge together.

  • Set the vertical supports 50 cm a part.

  • Tie two strands of yarn from each section letting the yarn dip evenly on both sides, but not more than 25 cm from top of vertical support.

  • Tie one end of two pieces of yarn to each vertical support at the ends and tie the other ends of yarn to 2 liter "Coke" bottles filled with water. This should allow vertical supports to stand by themselves.

  • Glue 2 pieces of yarn 30 cm long to each side of road section 5 cm a part.

  • Place road section inside vertical support. You can use text books to hold road section in place (about 14 cm from floor).

  • Tie each of the 2 pieces of yarn on road section to yarn on vertical support. Cut off excess yarn.

  • Remove books. Make minor adjustments and...

You have made a Suspension Bridge!!
