Down In the Landfill
by Margie Weitkamp

Down in the landfill
The landfill so low
Hang your head over,
Smell the wind blow!

Check out the methane,
Particulate, too.
Volatile gases
Are wafting toward you.

Wafting toward you, dear,
Drifting along
Let fragrance of garbage
Add punch to our song!

And, say, what is happ'ning
Leaching below?
Seee leachate flowing--
Where will it go?

Where will it go, dear?
Water supplies
Just might be ruined
And think of the flies!

Make a clay liner.
Pump the gas out.
Use it for heating
The homes all about.

But, if you are planning
A new landfill, dear,
Remember the main thing:
Just don't build it here.

Just don't do it here, folks!
We don't want it, pard!

The key landfill guideline
Is, "Not In My Back Yard!"
